It has been used from time to time, both graphically and as a gesture, to represent concepts such as defiance, and sometimes unity and strength.<!--more--><\/h2>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">During the 1960s and 1970s, Black nationalist groups in the United States and elsewhere frequently used a dark-skinned version of the clenched fist, or the same imagery, as a symbol of \u201cBlack Power.\u201d\n\nBy the 1980s, White Supremacists in the United States and elsewhere had appropriated the symbol, replacing it with a White Fist.
